Established to preserve and extend the work of Dr. Pierre Schmidt (1894–1987), a major figure in unicist homeopathy in the 20th century, the Foundation is committed to lasting transmission. Its mission is to sustain a scientific, clinical, and documentary legacy built over a lifetime devoted to the study, teaching, and dissemination of classical homeopathy.
Today, the Foundation continues this mission within a structured institutional framework, ensuring the preservation of this heritage, supporting projects beneficial to the discipline, and providing resources for practitioners, researchers, and students.
Provide access to a reference library
The Foundation facilitates access to the library assembled by Dr Pierre Schmidt: around 3,000 books and journals devoted to homeopathy (treatises, Materia Medica, journal series), drawn from a collection of international scope. The collection also includes rare primary texts and valuable working documents for study and research. Deposited in St. Gallen and progressively integrated into the catalogue of the Kantonsbibliothek Vadiana, it can be consulted by appointment.
Supporting projects through an annual grant
The Foundation awards an annual scholarship, the amount of which is set each year, intended to support alternately a Swiss and a French physician in a structured project. The work may relate to dissemination, basic research, clinical experimentation, the evaluation of application techniques, or bibliographic research. The criteria, required documents, and deadlines are specified on the dedicated page to prepare and submit an application.
Following the passing of Dr. Pierre Schmidt in 1987, his wish to see his commitment continued through a foundation led, several years later, to the official establishment of the Foundation in Switzerland.
1987
Upon his passing, Dr. Pierre Schmidt left a major legacy for classical homeopathy. His wish to see this commitment continued through a foundation paved the way for a work of transmission designed to endure.
1993
Official establishment of the Foundation in Switzerland, with a clear purpose: to promote and develop homeopathy, support research/training (scholarship), and make the library available to practitioners and researchers.
1994
Dr Jost Künzli and Dr René Casez organise the transfer of the library; it is placed under the responsibility of Dr Hansjörg Heé in St. Gallen to ensure access and ongoing oversight.
2018
The Foundation publishes Volume 1 of Dr René Casez’s “Course in Homeopathy” to preserve and transmit a major body of teaching.
2024
After 30 years of preservation and care, the library is transferred (on behalf of the Foundation) to the Kantonsbibliothek Vadiana; integration into the catalogue proceeds gradually, with finding aids available.
